TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has developed a new CGAE series-the world's first 0510 specification (EIA 0204) inverted MLCC product for automotive use, with a maximum capacitance of 1 µF*. According to the capacitance of the capacitor, the rated voltage of the capacitor is between 4V~50V, and the capacitance range is 47 nF~1 µF. All product models under this new series are in line with the AEC-Q200 automotive standard, and mass production will begin in January 2020.
Unlike traditional MLCC products, the inverted capacitor flips the connecting terminal 90 degrees. The current path becomes wider and shorter, which reduces ESL, ESR and impedance. The excellent performance of inverted MLCC products has been proven in a wide range of applications.
In terms of improving car safety, the importance of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) has become increasingly prominent. At the same time, there are more and more functions to support autonomous driving, which requires computing power comparable to computers or smartphones. Because of this, integrated circuits have more and more functions, and this requires more decoupling MLCC products to further suppress noise. In addition, as the trend toward space-saving design becomes more apparent, the market's demand for high-performance components that are conducive to noise suppression continues to increase.
Thanks to the excellent effects of the new capacitors in noise suppression and decoupling applications, the number of MLCC products required can be reduced. In the future, TDK will continue to increase the capacitance value and further expand the product range to meet the needs of more automotive applications.
