TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has developed a new power inductor BCL322515RT used in automotive electronic equipment, which is used to plug into the power line of automotive electronic control circuits. The product will begin mass production in October 2020.
The inductor uses TDK's proprietary material technology and structural design, and achieves high inductance (47μH) in a small size (3.2x2.5x1.5mm). The saturation current is 0.72A. In addition, the inductor uses metallic magnetic materials as the core material, and its size is reduced by about 35% compared with products using traditional ferrite materials with similar properties. The rated voltage is 40V, which can be used in the main power circuit and is directly input by the vehicle 12V battery. The operating temperature range is -55 to +155°C (including its own temperature rise), supporting harsh temperature environments. In addition, the design of the connection structure between the winding wire and the external electrode reduces the risk of open circuit and ensures high reliability.
Recently, it is increasingly possible for automobiles to have electronic control units for information communication and automatic driving, which also increases the number of inductors used in the power circuit in the unit. In the future, TDK will continue to expand its lineup of BCL series products to meet customers' various needs for power inductors used in automotive electronic equipment, such as downsizing.
