MAX77655 provides the industry's most power output channels for portable wearable devices, IoT sensors, and health monitors, and reduces the solution size by 70%

Beijing, China—November 11, 2020—Maxim Integrated Products, Inc (NASDAQ: MXIM) announced the launchMAX77655Single Inductance Multiple Output (SIMO) Power Management IC (PMIC), achieves new technological breakthroughs with the highest power density, and is suitable for next-generation devices with extremely small dimensions. Compared with the closest competing solution, this PMIC reduces the size of the solution by 70%. The 4-way up/down conversion channel can provide 700mA current, and only one external inductor is required. The total solution size is only 17mm2.

Engineers engaged in the research and development of ultra-small portable devices such as wearable devices, Internet of Things (IoT) sensor networking, and health monitors are seeking to integrate stronger computing power, larger storage capacity, and more abundant sensor resources in the system The solution-integrate all functions into ultra-small size equipment. MAX77655 SIMO PMIC integrates 4 power supplies in 3.95mm2In the monolithic IC, and share the same inductor, the problem of space limitation is solved. In addition, the IC's ultra-high working efficiency helps to extend battery life. Under medium and high power loads, the power converter efficiency is as high as 90%; under light load conditions, the quiescent current is only 6.9µA.

For power management platforms with system currents less than 500mA, Maxim Integrated has introduced two configurable PMICs: MAX77643 and MAX77642. These ICs have the industry's highest efficiency up to 93%, and only need a single inductor to support 3 buck/boost regulator outputs, and integrate a 150mA LDO/load switch.

Main advantage

  • Maximum power density:The power density is increased by 85%; it can provide up to 700mA total current, while the PCB area is only 17mm2, Supports higher current loads, and improves computing power and sensor resources for next-generation designs
  • smallest size: Integrating 4 power supplies and only a single inductor, reducing the size of the power management solution by 70%
  • high efficiency: 3.7 VIN, 1.8 VOUTTime efficiency up to 90%

Evaluation

  • "As end users have increasingly stronger requirements for wearability and integration of ultra-small electronic products, it is increasingly difficult for engineers to add new functions to the system." Omdia Power Semiconductor Analyst Kevin Anderson said: "Any power supply design that can reduce size and increase output power will help designers add powerful computing power to next-generation applications."
  • "The MAX77655 uses a breakthrough SIMO structure that brings new capabilities to millions of small, battery-powered, and cloud-connected systems. The highest power density of this solution paves the way for wearable and edge AI design manufacturers. Its vision is Improve the "intelligence" and data collection points of these devices." Karthi Gopalan, director of Maxim Integrated's mobile power supply division, said: "Based on our power supply scheme, designers can add precision sensors with the strongest processing capabilities to the system, while at the same time To meet the demanding needs of customers, that is, to provide the longest battery life with the smallest size."
